The Story of Ana and Fofa

The story behind Fur Real Meal began back in 2016, when a very special furbaby entered my life.
I still vividly recall that crisp November day when Fofa (Portuguese for “Fluffy”), a tiny two-pound furball, bounded into my home.
Amidst the joy of playing and adapting with the newest family member, I was certain that potty training her would be my biggest challenge ahead. Little did I know, however, what awaited us.
​During Fofa's first months, repeated episodes of vomiting, diarrhea, fevers, and hospitalizations revealed that she had a severe food intolerance.
After seeing a bunch of vets, none of them could fix — they just gave me treatments to help with her symptoms..
Even though Fofa was almost two, she was still as tiny and light as a 6-month-old puppy. She wasn’t getting the right nutrition, and she was growing way slower than she should..
That’s when I knew I had to do something to change my little girl’s reality. But to make that happen, I realized I’d need a big change in my own life too.
So began my mission to find a protein Fofa could actually tolerate. As a food engineer, I used my knowledge and experience, diving into studies and tests to figure out the best diet for her.
Along the way, I realized I needed to learn not just about Fofa’s reactions but also about the pet food production process and the rules around it. What I discovered was key to getting the results I hoped for.
After months of courses and research I finally found the perfect diet for Fofa, a pup who’s intolerant to 98% of protein sources, 90% of veggies, and only accepts one type of carb.
Today, the same pup who needed so much care just to make it through her first 20 months is now almost nine years old — healthy, happy, and full of life!
And along with Fofa’s journey came the birth of Fur Real Meal — a company started by a woman, food engineer, and animal lover, driven to help other dogs live their best, healthiest lives.
Fofa’s story will always be part of Fur Real Meal, but we can’t wait to be part of yours too — helping your pet live the healthy, happy life they truly deserve.
